Tour the Goat Rocks Wilderness trekking through creek basins, up ridgelines on flower-lined trail to reach a sprawling parkland at the foot of an ancient volcano. This is easily the most popular trail in the wilderness, with relatively easy access to fairy tale meadows and astounding views its no surprise.

Drive to Forest Road 21, located 13.3 miles east of Randel and 2.7 miles west of Packwood. Turn south toward Walupt Lake and Chambers Lake, staying on FR 21 for 14.1 miles where the road splits. Veer left onto FR 2150 and continue 2 miles to the 045 spur on the right. Turn right and find parking as close to the trailhead at the far end of the loop as possible. If the parking area is full, return to FR 2150 and continue another 0.4 to the Berry Patch Trailhead and roads end. The Snowgrass Trail #96 begins from this trailhead. View Google Directions >>
From the trailhead, Snowgrass Trail #96A begins gently, quickly over into the Goat Rocks Wilderness at 0.1 mile, passing the Snowgrass Trail #96 not far beyond. Keep right, joining the main trail and meandering through a thin subalpine forest of diminutive firs, pines and cedar intermingled with flower-speckled meadows. The trail is largely flat as it zips along the lower reaches of Goat Ridge toward the pointed peaks of Goat Rocks of while Mt. Adams keeps you company on the horizon.
