Switchback your way up through green open slopes and wildflower-bursting meadows to reach a rocky perch that first hosted fire lookouts more than a century ago. The long trek up to the summit is almost entirely out from under the forest canopy, offering long views that widen with each passing step and culminate in spectacular vistas from the catwalks of Green Mountain Lookout.

Take State Route 530 to Suiattle River Road (FR 26) located 7.1 miles east of Darrington and 11.1 miles west of Rockport. Merge onto Suiattle River Road for 10 miles to the pavement end, then continuing another 8.7 miles to FR 2680 (Green Mountain Road). Turn left and follow the road 5.5 miles to the Green Mountain Trailhead. Parking is limited. View Google Directions >>
From the parking area, the Green Mountain Trail #782 slipping into the trees and quickly climbing past the trailhead registration station. Follow a dusty, steeping trail through mature forest under the only sheltering canopy found along this hike. Quickly reach a large meadow that foreshadows the rest of hike, trailside-wildflowers dot the greenery with color for a few moments before you briefly return to the firs.
