From the parking lot, the trail cuts through a short stretch of mixed forest before reaching the Mima Prairie. The namesake mounds are immediately visible as you work your way to a small interpretive center and observation deck. Take a few moments to read up on the history of the area before climbing the narrow steps to the roof. The view from the top lends some perspective on the sea of mounds stretching to the south, as well as a better view of the wildflowers that so often blanket the prairie with blues, whites and yellows.
