Take Interstate 5 Exit 255 for Sunset Drive and Mount Baker, turning onto State Route 542 East, also known as the Mount Baker Highway. Continue 34.5 miles to Glacier Creek Road about a mile past the town of Glacier. Turn right onto the road and then take an almost immediate left onto FR 37, following it 12.6 miles to the Skyline Divide Trailhead. Privy available. View Google Directions >>
Begin from the well-marked trailhead off Forest Road 37, following the Skyline Divide Trail #678 as it works its way up the ridge under a thick canopy of fir and hemlock. Switchbacks and extensive log staircases help to smooth out what would otherwise be a rough climb on rock-and-root trailbed. The trail improvements wane as you near the ridgeline, crossing into the Mount Baker Wilderness at 1.7 miles. Find the first wildflower meadows here, with wide swaths of slope covered in blooms and bright color. Ahead the snowy summit of Baker peeks over the treetops, drawing you out of the meadows to the ridgetop.
